Another trip to Portencross this morning. My main reason for the trip was to take some more images with the 10 stop ND, especially as the cloud formations were quite interesting. This image is from the pier (obviously). I played around with exposure times and the Hitech 10 stop ND allowed me to get the exposure to 61 seconds for this shot. Unfortunately, even though the sun was behind me, I had a few issues with flare and a slight magenta colour cast. It’s a pity as the effect is really good, but it’s hit and miss whether you can get a shot that doesn’t suffer from flare and colour casts.

The low early morning sun seemed to make the sailboat glow especially with the great sky above it.

I woke this morning to a nice covering of snow. We haven’t really had as much as the south of England, but there was still a decent snowfall. I managed to get out first thing in search of a nice snowy landscape shot. I didn’t really have much luck until I found this lane and tree. Luckily the sun peeped through the clouds just long enough to cast some shadows on the snowy ground.

Two shots of the same location with slightly different processing. The first has a more dreamy feel compared to the sharpness of the second one.

My first sunset of 2009. This is Portencross, a place I have visited on quite a few occasions. I was originally here to see Camerons new 5D mark II in action and ended up staying on for a sunset. Not the best sunset I’ve ever seen but it was good to be out for a while after a few weeks without getting out with the camera. I used a 3 stop soft ND grad for the sky, along with a 3 stop ND filter to lengthen the exposure and blur the water.

We used the Canon 5D Mark II’s High Definition Video recording to record a quick video of the scene.
