Glasgow George Square Carnival

I have been meaning to take a trip up to Glasgow George Square Carnival for a few years now.  Last December I finally found the time to take a walk around it.

I was using this trip to try out my new, pocketable compact camera…the Canon S95.  I had decided to sell my previous small camera, the Panasonic GF1, for a couple of good reasons.  One was the lack of use considering the price I paid for it and the other was that it was still didn’t really fit in a pocket unless you had a large jacket pocket for it.

It’s replacement, the S95, manages to fit in an inside jacket pocket and is easily forgotten about and this means it’s much more likely that I would have it on me when I’m out and about.  Another good reason for getting this camera is that it has been superceeded by the S100, so all the old stock of S95′s were being sold off cheaply.  As you can see from the image it is a small and neat camera.

The S95 has a 3.8 times optical zoom and a fast aperture of f2.0.  Along with inbuilt IS (Image Stabilisation) this makes the S95 a very capable low light performer.  Of course it isnt going to beat a DSLR and a fast zoom for low light images but then it does have the advantage of size and price.  Here are a selection of images from the carnival.
